Zane Mykland, CLE MontereyFrom Cannery Row to Old Fisherman’s Wharf and Big Sur to Pebble Beach, Monterey, California, is home to some of the most uniquely historic attractions in the country.

It’s also home to a rising voice raising awareness about the strengths of neurodivergent young adults. Zane Mykland, a recent graduate from CLE Monterey, recently wrote a compelling article titled “Living with Autism” for the August 2023 edition of Monterey Bay Parent magazine. This feature not only provided readers with an intimate perspective of growing up with autism but also celebrated the unique perspectives and insight of the neurodivergent community.

Zane’s journey with CLE is one of personal growth, resilience, and accomplishment. From understanding his autism as a child to mastering effective coping strategies, he transformed his experiences into powerful narratives that inspire others.

“Neurodivergent children are just as valuable and capable as any other child,” wrote Zane in his article. “They may learn and process information differently, but they have so much to offer the world. With love, support, and acceptance, neurodivergent children can achieve great things.”

This powerful, resonating statement is a testament to Zane’s commitment to fostering understanding and acceptance for all.

Living with Autism, Monterey Bay ParentComplementing Zane’s feature is an informative sidebar titled “What Comes After High School for Children With a Disability.” The piece, written by Sabrina Hiltunen—CLE Monterey’s Career Development Instructor and a contributor to Monterey Bay Parent—provides valuable insights into the plethora of opportunities available post-high school.

Karlie Driscoll, CLE Monterey’s Program Director, was quoted in the article and reinforced the critical role organizations like CLE play in shaping futures and molding leaders like Zane.
