By Kelly Miller-Alvarez, M.S., Director CLE Davie
CLE was instrumental in assisting Allison with her program at Merryfield School of Pet Grooming, which she successfully completed by the end of 2014.
When Allison first came to CLE, she was looking for support and guidance in helping her become a responsible young adult and transition into independence. Allison learned how to prepare healthy meals for herself, how to pay her bills on time, manage her expenses and become part of a community away from home.
In the beginning, adjusting to her new life at CLE was challenging since it was the first time Allison had been away from home and was given the responsibility to be on her own. She got through these challenges with the support of staff and mentors, who guided her in navigating successfully through her challenges, as she knew that ultimately the positive outcome would have an impact in her future life.
Without CLE, Allison feels she would not be where she is today. Her advice to any student looking into joining the program would be that if you put in all your effort, dedication and time, you will succeed in what you are looking into accomplishing with your goals in life, both academically and personally. She fondly remembers CLE today as a “Great Home Away from Home.”
