College Living Experience supports young adults with varying exceptionalities to prepare for life as independent adults. The CLE Program includes educational support services, training in independent living skills and social skills, and support services for transitioning into the workforce.

Young adults with autism, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy and other special needs can successfully transition to independent adulthood with tailored support provided by CLE.

Job Summary

The CLE team is looking to add a versatile, proactive, detail-oriented, positive individual who enjoys making a difference, being part of a team and takes pride in their work.

This position is responsible for building rapport with assigned CLE students, encouraging social involvement, and facilitating appropriate social interactions with peers, staff, and the community. The Social Coach has the appropriate clinical background to recognize problem areas and implement corrective strategies to help the student navigate real-world experiences.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Builds a low-key, friendly, and fun relationship with the student, encouraging realistic social involvement in CLE and extracurricular activities and facilitating an appreciation for the balance of work and play.

  • Assists the student in making social plans and engages in appropriate activities with the student; such as going to lunch, the mall, ball games, playing video games together, etc.

  • Models basic social conventions and promotes appropriate student interactions with peers, staff, and the community at large.

  • Helps student become aware of his/her own view of the world as it relates to others and helps the student to understand other people’s perspectives so that they can better traverse future and existing social contexts.

  • Encourages student to think through problems in social judgment and reinforces healthy choices.

  • Writes comprehensive progress notes on each session by the end of the day.

  • Reports red or yellow flag issues to the Clinical Director immediately.

  • Attends a weekly, one-hour group supervision of Social Coach with the Clinical Director.

  • Transports students to and from activities as necessary.

  • Facilitates social engagement groups and/or activities.

  • Provides end-of-semester reports for each assigned student which includes: level of rapport, problem areas, social skills goals, progress toward goal achievement, balancing work/play, dealing with roommate issues, ability to establish and keep friends, areas of concern, and future goals.

Position Qualifications

  • Doctoral level clinical psychology student or equivalent training and experience working with special needs students.

    Working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience working with executive functioning and deficits of young adults with disabilities, as well as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is preferred.

  • Valid state driver’s license with appropriate endorsement

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, parents, and the general public.

  • Ability to perform basic math functions and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • The work environment for this position is generally a typical office setting. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may
    occasionally be exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age, sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and may be subject to occasional
    travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work
    environment is usually quiet to moderate.
