Job Summary

The CLE team is looking to add a career savvy, proactive, detail-oriented, relationship builder who enjoys making a difference and takes pride in their work.

This position is responsible for assessing skills, abilities, and comprehension levels of special needs students and providing appropriate instruction and guidance to assure student success in performing independent living functions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Participates in Independent Living Skill Instruction including, but not limited to, meal planning and preparation, household and organization, financial instruction, and self-care.
  • Facilitates instruction and completion of aspects of CLE student housing that may include but is not limited to: submitting rental application, communicating with property manager, completing roommate questionnaire, ensuring households are free of hazards, etc.
  • Provides instruction, consultation, and coaching to students in life skills, conflict resolution, self-monitoring, and time management.
  • Collaborates with other staff in a timely manner to ensure student needs are efficiently problem solved for their ongoing safety and development.
  • Assists students in their medication routine and may assist in refilling prescriptions, per programming needs identified by CLE team.
  • Serves as an advisor to designated students which includes but is not limited to: weekly coaching sessions, serving as a liaison to student’s family and funding sources, reads and releases student session notes, prepares reports and attends meetings as needed.
  • Provides timely and accurate documentation through written student progress notes and other reports as required.
  • Completes CLE student progress inventories.
  • Monitors safety of students and property which includes check-ins with students on a scheduled or as needed basis, evaluating any atypical events, and determining necessary actions to address or resolve the issue. This requires interaction with students with respect to emergencies, as well as general questions and roommate issues. This may include periodic apartment and wellness checks.
  • Ensures students have an emergency preparedness kit and know locations to go to in the event of a crisis.
  • Attends weekly ILS team meetings to address program needs, problem solve and oversee team development.
  • Actively and consistently participates in weekly staff meetings to provide relevant information on students’ progress and improvement and to make recommendations going forward.
  • Facilitates student transportation needs, as required, to assure means of transport is available for social and recreational activities, dining, shopping, medical emergencies or appointments, etc. Promotes the use of public transportation systems when possible.
  • Provides assistance with emergency healthcare needs to get a student to the appropriate medical professional, such as hospital or doctor as needed in the evening or on the weekends. May require staying with the student in the hospital or clinic until another staff or parent comes or an appropriate plan has been developed with the parent / guardian.
  • Be available by cell phone at all times during CLE working hours and while on-call.
  • Initiates contact with the Director or Associate Director to consult and address questions or concerns that are atypical and need additional team problem solving.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social science, or other related field with a minimum of two years of relevant experience working with special needs students. Proficiency is required in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Valid state driver’s license with appropriate endorsement.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, parents, and the general public.

  • Ability to perform basic math functions and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decision.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, and peripheral vision, color and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
