College Living Experience supports young adults with varying exceptionalities to prepare for life as independent adults. The CLE Program includes educational support services, training in independent living skills and social skills, and support services for transitioning into the workforce.

Young adults with autism, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy and other special needs can successfully transition to independent adulthood with tailored support provided by CLE.

Job Summary

The CLE team is currently looking for an Independent Living and Career Skills coach. In this position, you will provide group career instruction (volunteer and jobs groups) and independent living skills instruction to support students with learning to live independently in their apartments. Perfect for those who enjoy fitness and healthy cooking, this position also includes small group work with students in those areas. Experience with Autism and job development preferred. These sessions are scheduled during regular business hours (though actual hours will be determined at hire).

Schedule:
This position will start in May with a reduced number of hours per week (5-10). Over the summer, hours will increase to approximately 20-22 per week by August. There is flexibility regarding schedule, but the ideal candidate will have 3-4 days of availability between Monday and Friday and between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Driving:
This position requires driving our center’s new 14-passenger van. A valid driver’s license is required, but special certifications are not needed.

Essential Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Career Development:

  • Leading and facilitating volunteer group and job skills groups for students.
  • Providing appropriate and relevant feedback to students before, during, and after groups to help build upon pre-existing skills and knowledge.
  • Facilitating 1-1 meetings with students to focus on their job search, job readiness skills, interview skills, and applications.
  • Driving students in the company van.

Independent Living Skills:

  • Facilitating 1-1 sessions with students in their apartments to focus on independent living goals. This can include cleaning, cooking, laundry, creating organizational systems, refilling medications, and any other skills related to maintaining living spaces and structures as a young adult.
  • Leading fitness and healthy cooking groups.
  • Facilitating roommate conversations and meetings.
  • Teaching independent living skills to small groups of students.
