FAILURE. Nobody likes it. Everybody experiences it. So how can we make the most of it? Discuss how to embrace and even celebrate failure and gain tips for how to foster positive failure experiences that contribute to long-term learning and success.

Everyone experiences failure in their lives, and one’s response to failure sets the tone for its short- and long-term impact. It is crucial for students to have opportunities to experience and problem-solve through failure during their early years to better prepare for future struggles. As students transition into young adulthood, increased expectations for self-advocacy and initiation can lead to often feeling overwhelmed with the decision-making process. By experiencing natural consequences of their decisions in a safe, supportive environment and developing healthy responses and strategies for managing when failure happens, students build the skills and resilience necessary for independence in adulthood.
