Young adults with autism, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy and other special needs can successfully transition to independent adulthood with tailored support provided by CLE.

Job Summary

The CLE team is seeking a Clinical Director for the Monterey center.

This position is primarily responsible for student assessment, coaching and problem solving, but is heavily involved in the admissions, support, and management functions; hiring and training staff; program planning; and parent communication.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Evaluates prospective students based on interview, application materials including, psycho-educational reports to determine eligibility for the program.

  • Develop and schedule individualized social skills programming for development with student mentors and identify needs for focus group participation upon enrollment.

  • Writes brief profiles of incoming students based on information in their applications and psycho-educational reports.

  • Provides recommendations on individual and group psychological and/or crisis intervention counseling to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance.

  • Provides assessment of student needs and counsels staff on environmental supports while also serving as a liaison between CLE and the students private therapy provider.

  • CLE is a field placement externship site for professionals seeking experience towards licensure. The Clinical Director will be responsible for interviewing and hiring, assignment and management of caseloads, individual supervision, the completion of quarterly evaluation paperwork, and maintaining a professional relationship with the local graduate programs.

  • Facilitates and/or supervises social skills development groups for students which may include topics such as: Social Skills, Stress Management, Dating, Self Determination or other areas of processing and personal growth which are dependent on student needs or interests.

  • Strategizes and helps conceptualize issues related to the students’ abilities and creates programming tailored to address the students’ needs and when necessary develops individual student action or intervention plans.

  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student participation in social activities and writes social skills progress reports for each student. Presents progress notes or summaries on student’s social development and psychological adjustment to parents, as needed.

  • Provides guidance, consultation, and assistance to staff and parents in developing healthy, consistent boundaries, setting appropriate social goals for each student, and guiding parents into an adult relationship with their children.

  • Participates in all team meetings and facilitates treatment plans and goal setting for all students.

  • Keeps apprised of latest literature concerning relevant diagnoses and interventions.

  • Conducts in-services to educate staff on various student diagnoses and effective teaching strategies for each disorder.

  • Functions as a role model for effective teaching of students as well as for communication, problem solving with staff, and enforcement of student confidentiality standards and processes.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises Mentors and other assigned staff.

  • Serve as a liaison to the community by performing in-person and virtual presentations, as well as outreach to families, education specialists, and mental health professionals.

  • Certification and/or license as a Clinical Psychologist in the state in which duties are performed with a minimum of two years of relevant experience working with special needs students. Should be familiar with a variety of psychological instruments including: WAIS-III, Woodcock-Johnson, WIAT, Vineland Adaptive Behavioral Scales, MMPI-2, MCMI-III, Strong Interest Inventory and the Myer’s Briggs Type Indicator. Must have experience as a school, community, or private practice-based professional with demonstrated exceptional skills in developing older adolescents/young adults, securing the respect and cooperation of their parents; and implementing successful psycho/social interventions.

    Proficiency is required in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Valid state driver’s license with appropriate endorsement.

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, parents, and the general public.
