What is Career Exploration?

Summer Career Exploration challenges students to learn useful workplace skills. For two-weeks students will explore various work environments while working with a team.

Students participate in a series of volunteer placements designed to develop their employment skills across different industries. Each work environment allows students to focus on strengthening their skills related to:

  • Career Readiness
  • Self-Determination
  • Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
  • Organization & Time Management

Each day, prior to beginning their community service learning project, students will participate in a variety of group team building activities to prepare for their day. In the afternoon, students will continue the fun by working with the CLE team on integrated living skills and peer relationships.

The 2-week program is designed specifically for students with learning differences such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Community Connection

Partnerships with local community agencies allow for high school students to connect with the Fort Lauderdale community while acquiring valuable skills needed for employment through service learning.

At CLE, we believe staying connected to our local community is of the utmost importance. Offering a variety volunteer placements, students will be exposed to unique opportunities to acquire valuable skills needed for employment. Through this service learning experience, students will build upon their skill set by receiving coaching on:

  • On the Job Duties

Social Development

After completing their service projects each day, students have a blast participating in a variety of recreational activities such as swimming, Kabooms, Dave and Busters, bowling, Tate’s Comics, and mini golf (Monster Golf).

These daily group activities are designed to enhance the students interpersonal skills with both their peers and in the workplace. While building and strengthening new relationships, students have the opportunity to continue to generalize their social skills to new settings.

Weekly focus groups take place with the CLE Psychologist so students can reflect upon their experiences while also focusing on problem solving, self-advocacy, and setting goals.

Integrated Living

Students reside in supervised college dorms that are centrally located with convenient access to Nova Southeastern University and CLE Offices. While living with a roommate, students have a chance to experience what it is like to live independently for the first time. Independent living instruction allows students to practice and generalize skills in:

  • Utilizing Public Transportation
  • Managing Finances
  • Meal Preparation
  • Room Organization
  • Hygiene Routines and Laundry
